AIS Student Engagement (IB World)

Welcome to the American International School in Egypt,

It’s an honor and a privilege to lead the AIS-Main family. My wife, two sons, and I have been welcomed with open arms here in Cairo and specifically at AIS-Main. We are home! And with the same warmth, I’d like to welcome you all home to AIS-Main for this school year. Why am I at AIS-Main? Because I believe that AISE students are the ones who will change the world for the better. AIS-Main was founded with the mission to “…inspire students to be lifelong learners who contribute positively within a diverse and changing world.”

There is no time in history when this has been more needed, and no school more capable of educating students to do so. Our world is changing every day, and each day the pace of that change increases. Self-driving cars are taking over streets of cities around the world, houses are being built using 3D printers, and many of the top professions our children will work in as adults don’t even exist today. Schools need to prepare students for this changing world.

To this end, our passion is to nurture students at AIS-Main to grow into young adults who are inquirers, open-minded, collaborators, caring, reflective, principled, balanced, excellent communicators, responsible risk-takers, critical thinkers, and knowledgeable individuals who practice citizenship. These traits form the AIS-Main portrait of a graduate, the outcomes we aspire to for each of our students from KG through graduation and beyond. It is through the development of these skills that our students at AIS-Main will gain the tools to create a better world and shape the future.

To accomplish this, teaching and learning at AIS-Main is grounded in six Learning Principles: (1) Relevance, (2) Timely Feedback, (3) Engagement, (4) Belonging, (5) Reflection, and (6) Collaboration. These research-based principles form the foundation of the AIS-Main experience. Our professional faculty and school leadership commit to an educational experience for your child steeped in these principles.

As the world changes and education adapts there are many things we hold dear that we will not change: A commitment to develop students of character, a commitment to the arts, athletics, and learning that supports the whole child, and a commitment to graduate excellent readers, authors, and mathematicians. An AIS-Main education provides students with the skills needed to create a positive future for themselves, their families, their communities, and the world.

I am so looking forward to this school year and hope you are too. AIS-Main is a special school, a school of national and international recognition, and a school whose faculty, staff, and students are some of the best in the world. I’m happy to welcome you home to AIS-Main.

Sincerely,
Dr. Kapono Ciotti
