Standards-based grading communicates how students are performing on a set of clearly defined learning targets called standards. The purpose of standards-based grading is to identify what a student knows, or is able to do, opposed to simply averaging grades/scores over the course of a grading period. This allows teachers to be clear about what a student has learned, or not learned, in a specific course. It also gives you, the parent or guardian, a more detailed and accurate assessment of how your child is progressing academically.
The standards-based report card is a shift from a traditional report card in several ways:
1. There will be no traditional letter grades on your child’s report card
2. Report cards will reflect the progress that your child has made on specific skills selected
3. from the academic standards in each content area.

Each year, your child will be assessed using the MAP Growth tests from NWEA. These tests are given digitally on a computer or IPad. The purpose in giving the MAP Growth tests is to determine each student’s instructional level while measuring their academic growth in math and reading.

We utilize the comprehensive Fountas and Pinnell Benchmark Assessment System to determine students independent and instructional reading levels. This assessment allows teachers to plan for effective instruction, observe student reading behaviors and identify students who need intervention.

AISE Primary strives to develop proficient students who have the skills and knowledge to think and reason mathematically. Our goal is to prepare each student to problem solve, think critically and succeed in a changing world. At AISE, we love that our campus is full of learners from a variety of cultures and backgrounds! The majority of our student population is made up of multilingual learners. We focus our teaching not on just academic content, but English language skills students need to be successful in and out of the classroom. With this in mind, we use the WIDA framework of supporting, teaching and assessing students. We encourage the use of both your native language and the English language in your home.

The AISE Main campus' primary counseling team supports raising student achievement every day in every way by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program. The primary school counseling program supports every student by providing individual and group counseling, classroom lessons and support for teachers, parents and administrative staff. School counselors at AISE Main adhere to the ASCA and ISCA models; highlighting, areas in academic, personal, social, career and the global perspective. The goal in the primary school counseling program is to develop lifelong learners and global citizens.
